Does DLC become scratched?
Although DLC is much harder than generic PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coatings it can still be scratched, so inevitably, over time, it will have little nicks and scratches where the steel shows through. It is still only a hardened layer that is microns in thickness.
What is DLC & how long will it last?
DLC is ‘Diamond-Like Carbon’. It is a nanocomposite coating that has the unique properties of natural diamond – low friction, high hardness (around 3,000 Vickers) and high corrosion resistance. Originally intended as a functional coating to reduce friction and wear in highly stressed components in motorsport engines, it is now also used as a decorative element for luxury goods such as watches. It has excellent properties of hardness, impact, scratch and wear-resistance combined with a noble black metallic look. It is chemically inert (non-tarnishing), odourless and hypoallergenic.
How do I change the strap?
Remove the strap by using the forked end of the watch tool to carefully lever the spring bar out of the lugs. To fit a different strap; place one end of the spring bar into the hole in the lug and use the forked end of the watch tool to lever the other end into position. If you wish to change the strap on your rose gold or white gold watch then it is advised that you visit your Authorised Dealer to avoid damaging the case.
How should I care for my watch?
Bremont watches are put through extensive testing before they leave the workshop and, although they have more than proved their resilience, they want to ensure that the enjoyment that comes from wearing a Bremont timepiece lasts for generations. Therefore, they recommend the following tips are observed:
* Ensure the Crown is pushed in to prevent the entry of water into the mechanism.
* Wash with fresh water following exposure to seawater or solvents to avoid damage to seals and strap.
* Avoid contact with electrical equipment and strong magnets (See “What is Magnetisation”)
* Keeping the watch in contact with your wrist will help minimize any exposure to extremes of temperature which can cause moisture to permeate the seals and cause condensation to form inside.
